Organic Farm

Why Organic?
Organic farming, which is farming without using chemical fertilizers and pesticides, is the most sustainable way to farm.  Though it requires a more intensive way of farming, the results are well worth the effort:
  • safe, healthy food--free of chemical toxins
  • nutrient-rich farmland that will continue to produce food indefinitely
  • undeniably more delicious taste
Vegetable Garden
Students raise a variety of vegetables in the vegetable garden including tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, beets, onions, cabbage, parsley, garlic, and cilantro.  Each of the products is 100% organic, since our garden uses no chemical fertilizers or pesticides.  You may be wondering how we keep the soil fertile and the insects out?  The school uses food scraps and other materials from the farm to create its own organic compost.  We fight insects by ____________.  Also, we practice inter-cropping, which places two complimentary plants next to each other to enhance growth.
Farmyard
Students care for a variety of animals including horses, cows, goats, pigs, chickens, and rabbits.  Everyday students attend to daily chores like taking the cattle out to graze, feeding the pigs, and collecting and washing eggs.  A major daily undertaking is milking all of the female goats and cows.  This milk is then safely transported to the on-campus dairy.
Dairy
Students produce a variety of dairy products including milk, dulce de leche, and five types of cheese.  Once products are finished, students safely package each product, applying a label and stamping a date.  The school's dairy products are the most profitable products from the  organic farm.
